Elearning & instructional design

Elearning design for the global eye health and disability sector

I'm an optometrist and instructional designer helping NGOs, foundations and health organisations turn specialist knowledge into practical, accessible learning, from refraction curricula to advocacy courses and accessibility training.

The problem I solve

Specialist knowledge is often held by a few experts or buried in outdated resources. I turn it into structured, engaging learning for frontline staff, volunteers and global teams, including in low-resource and multilingual settings.

Selected work

  1. SEE Together

    Refraction and dispensing curriculum

    Challenge
Core refraction and dispensing skills sat with a small number of practitioners, with no consistent way to train new staff at scale.
    What I built
A blended refraction and dispensing curriculum combining online learning, in-person workshops and practical assessment, sequenced around skills learners need on the job.
    Outcome
A consistent training pathway that partner sites can use to prepare new staff, with practical assessment and resources that students and trainers can draw on.
  2. ZEISS

    Myopia Education Program

    Challenge
Eye care professionals needed practical, evidence-based guidance on managing myopia in children, a fast-moving area where clinical practice varies widely.
    What I built
Modular online learning for eye care professionals covering myopia evidence, risk assessment, management options and conversations with parents.
    Outcome
A self-paced program practitioners can complete around clinic hours, giving ZEISS a consistent education offering across international markets.
  3. The Fred Hollows Foundation

Advocacy training course and AI-assisted tools

    Challenge
Teams across multiple countries needed to advocate effectively for eye health, but guidance was long-form and rarely used in the day-to-day work.
    What I built
An advocacy course paired with AI-assisted tools that help develop advocacy plans and advocacy briefs, and rehearse lobby meetings.
    Outcome
Country teams have a consistent advocacy course and tools to effectively plan advocacy work, write compelling briefs and prepare for meetings with government and partners.
  4. Guide Dogs NSW/ACT

    Technology job aid

    Challenge
Staff supporting clients with assistive technology needed answers at the point of use, not a course to sit through.
    What I built
A searchable job aid designed for quick reference in the field, accessible on the devices staff already carry.
    Outcome
A mobile-friendly resource staff can consult during client sessions, giving them a way to find practical guidance at the point of need.

About

I'm an optometrist, elearning developer and instructional designer. I take projects from concept through to evaluation, combining clinical understanding with technical development skills to create learning that improves performance, not just looks good.

Working in eye health and disability has shaped how I design. Learning should be accessible and engaging for everyone, including people learning in a second language, people with vision loss or other disabilities, and teams delivering care in low-resource settings.

Tell me about your training challenge.

Whether it's a curriculum, a compliance course or an accessibility problem, send a brief outline and I'll get back to you promptly.
